Abstract
Purpose: The article examines the possibilities of historical and local lore cognition for the purpose of developing volunteer excursion activities of students in the conditions of martial law in Ukraine as a result of russian aggression. The etymology of the terms “volunteer tourism”, “patriotic upbringing”, “historical and local lore cognition” and their use have been established. The theoretical aspects of the historical and local lore cognition approach in excursion activity are investigated. The role of volunteering during its transformation and adaptation to the needs of wartime tourism is determined, taking into account the interests of local citizens and temporarily displaced persons.
Methodology: A systematic and structural, local history approach and practical experience of branding a tourist destination of the city based on historical knowledge and volunteer practice in excursion activities are applied. The practical experience of volunteer tourism on the example of the city of Kamianets-Podilskyi is considered.
Findings: The attention is focused on the need to continue the successful practice of rebuilding and adapting the architectural monuments of the city for the objects of excursion activity. The emphasis is on streamlining the tourism infrastructure, taking into account the needs of temporarily displaced persons.
Value: The presented proposals and experience of volunteer excursions will contribute to the patriotic upbringing of student youth and citizens. This experience can be scaled up to other cities to restore tourism, increase patriotism, and brand the city.
