Description
The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games have been welcomed as an opportunity to improve the social, economic and environmental standing of London. There has been significant coverage of the legacy of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, for example the Olympic venues and physical regeneration of East London (Tukhoo, 2009). However, I am going to focus on the legacy that the Olympics and Paralympics will leave on the social fabric of London which, in comparison to the structural legacy, has not received much attention. This article will focus specifically on what legacy the 2012 Games will leave young disabled people, and draws on the views of a group of young disabled people I spoke to in Tower Hamlets; one of the five Olympic boroughs (Grey-Thompson, 2009).
