Description

The year 2012 immediately conjures up many ideas as to what the London Olympics will be like. However not many people may stop to think about what happens after 2012. It is difficult to imagine London after the Games are over. We are so focused on this particular event that we often forget that there is a bigger picture that should occupy our minds. As a nation we have spent a substantial amount of money on this event, building the Olympic stadium and various other facilities to accompany it, but when 2012 comes and goes will we just be left with unoccupied buildings and lost opportunities for employment and volunteering? In this article I will discuss what will become of these buildings; whether they will serve a purpose in the future, or whether we’ve made a mistake and wasted too much money on something that will come to have no use. I will also consider what the legacy means for young people in terms of providing opportunities to work and volunteer in the future. I will do this by looking at the opportunities that will be created by the Olympics for young people and whether they will be sustainable. Also I will explore whether the venues will be something young people can benefit from.
