The relevance of this study is determined by the fact that the modern environment requires qualified specialists in various fields.

The purpose of the article is to investigate  the influence of leadership qualities on the future professional activity of specialists.

The following methods were used: methods of analysis and synthesis, the method of comparison, the method of abstraction, the methods of deduction and induction, the method of generalization and the survey method (the author’s questionnaire “The influence of leadership qualities on the effectiveness of professional activity”).

This article describes leadership qualities and character traits related to them, reveals their influence on professional competence and the image of future specialists, describes “hard skills” and “flexible skills” and reveals their influence on the formation of students as future specialists, defines groups leadership qualities and the role of specific leadership qualities in professional activity and image formation, the main components of a professional image are described, a comparative analysis of specific leadership qualities in scientific sources is carried out, leadership is analysed as part of the self-awareness of an individual, the stages of leadership qualities formation within a higher education institution are described, the approaches to their formation and the conditions of their formation are disclosed.

This work is of practical value for teachers of higher education institutions and can be used to improve the effectiveness of the educational process of future specialists, for their formation as specialists, and for the effective preparation of students for professional activities.
