Description

The 2012 Games are fast approaching. Olympic athletes are already well into their training programmes and the builders are working flat out to ensure that facilities are ready in time. But there is another group hard at work preparing for 2012. Members of the Young Leaders Programme are also working hard to deliver their own contributions to the forthcoming Olympic and Paralympic Games. The Young Leaders Programme was set up in 2010 and aims to engage young disadvantaged people from around the country in leading their own community projects in the run up to the 2012 Games (London 2012, 2010). We want to find out what the programme is about and in particular explore the extent to which young disabled people are included in this programme. This article aims to consider the success of the programme in engaging with young disabled people in the context of current thinking around issues of equality.
