Abstract

Purpose: This study investigates Emotional Intelligence (EI) and Positive Life Orientation (PLO) among adolescents in Gujarat and Maharashtra, India. It aims to determine regional disparities and gender impacts on Emotional Intelligence and Positive Life Orientation development, while also establishing a connection between these two traits.

Design/Methodology/Approach: Employing an ex post facto design, data was collected from 740 adolescents (bifurcated according to gender) from Gujarat and Maharashtra. Reliable and Validated tools were used to assess their Emotional Intelligence and Positive Life Orientation.

Findings: Maharashtra’s adolescents display higher Emotional Intelligence levels than Gujarat’s, and a positive correlation exists between elevated Emotional Intelligence and a more Positive Life Orientation.

Social Implications: Identifying regional and gender-based trends informs tailored interventions for emotional well-being among Gujarat and Maharashtra adolescents. The Emotional Intelligence-Positive Life Orientation connection highlights the value of nurturing Emotional Intelligence skills, fostering resilience and optimism.

Originality/Value: This study adds to knowledge by examining Emotional Intelligence and Positive Life Orientation. Outcomes emphasize Emotional Intelligence role in shaping attitudes, impacting self-perception, academics, and mental well-being. The research underscores Emotional Intelligence significance in cultivating a positive life approach, with broader applicability.
