Description
ABSTRACT
Aim. The influence of individual, social and psychological characteristics on students’ perception of contemporary art have been considered in the manuscript. The article has demonstrated the importance of existing predispositions, considering the condition for ensuring efficiency in the educational process.
Design and methods. The study covered 57 students of Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University. Using focus group method, possible factors of students’ perception of modern music art were suggested and measured using standardized tests.
Results. Value orientation, academic success and gender status are the factors that have greatest influence on the positive perception of contemporary art. In the existing regression model, the influence of value orientation has been determined by a negative sign.
Discussion. The results should be considered in relation to given academic culture, region and predominant social groups. They can be compared with studies which emphasized the influence of a more formal range of variables (gender, age, parental education) than was determined by the focus group method in this study.
Conclusions. Obtained results have indicated importance of value orientations in the perception of modern music art by students. This should be considered with the development of academic course programs, where value orientation component is a significant component.
