ABSTRACT
Purpose: The aim of this paper is to analyze and review literature and information about how pandemic’ interventions and policies had marked the ‘new normal’ for Italian young people.

Design: A literature review was applied to be able to extrapolate significant and reliable information so to properly describe this issue.

Findings: The paper discusses the dramatic consequences of the pandemic restrictions on Italian young people, especially related to education, work opportunities and mental health. It also shows how the young Italians from lower socio-economic situations were more negatively affected by the pandemic restrictions.

Research limitations: The paper is just a literature review and does not provide empirical or theoretical evidence.

Social implications: This paper offers a foundation for future and more practical research on how the pandemic affected the younger Italian generations, and also a reliable source to raise awareness and information on the topic.

Originality/value: This paper highlights the new and problematic reality for Italian young people and can help for a better understanding of the issues they may face in the future.
