You are invited to volunteer at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The Mayor of London, and the adverts that now cover the walls of the London Underground, are encouraging us to volunteer and be part of the “greatest show on earth” (Boris Johnson website, 2009). I for one am excited about the prospect of the Olympics and Paralympics being held together in our great capital city. And as an avid supporter of diversity being promoted through volunteering, I am watching closely as the invites roll out and people sign up. A sense of change has resonated throughout East London since the announcement that London had successfully won the bid to host the 2012 Olympics in 2005. Five years on, and getting ever closer to the big event, discussion on the Olympics can be heard anywhere in the streets of East London as the buzz word becomes a deafening chorus of opinions
